Everything you need to know about Delta-8
What is delta 8

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Here’s what you should know about this cannabis compound.

When the initial cannabis and hemp laws were written, it was as though THC and CBD were the only compounds. However, Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol is the latest of over 100 cannabinoids to start getting a lot of media attention. If you’ve heard of Delta-8 but don’t know what it is, this is the right place for you.

Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know about Delta-8 to determine whether it’s the right product for you.

What Is Delta-8?

Delta-8 is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found exclusively in the cannabis plant. It is typically found in small traces and is somewhat similar in chemical structure to what we commonly refer to as THC. In actuality, THC is a subcategory that encompasses around half of the phytocannabinoids found in these plants.

The compound we refer to as THC is Delta-9 THC, and Delta-8 is closely related but with milder psychoactive effects. However, it does still provide a similar euphoric feeling but with a lower risk of paranoia, anxiety, and drowsiness. Let’s dive a little deeper into how Delta-8 relates to its more popular brethren.

How Does Delta-8 Compare to THC and CBD?

Some people colloquially refer to Delta-8 as “THC lite,” as it is closer in both chemical structure and effect to THC than CBD. However, it’s actually derived from the legal hemp plant, meaning that you don’t need to live in a state in which cannabis is recreationally nor medically legal to use it.

Delta-8 binds to your body’s CB1 receptors to increase certain protein reactions while inhibiting others. While it can make you “high,” it provides a different experience than Delta-9 THC. Everybody’s body will react to each cannabinoid differently, so this is by no means medical advice. However, Delta-8 reportedly boasts benefits for depression, anxiety, and other health issues that negatively impact emotion.

Beyond that, the lack of federal guidelines and research means you should take precautions with Delta-8. Start by microdosing with 5mg increments to find the right dosage for your body chemistry.

Will Delta-8 Show Up on a Drug Test?

Standard urinalysis for things such as employment or probation does not currently differentiate between cannabinoids. This means that Delta-8 could cause a false positive by detecting the incorrect chemical compound in your urine. Because of scattered state and federal laws, this could create problems you should be aware of if using Delta-8 prior to a scheduled test.

Also, be aware that using Delta-8 may cause similar impairment to Delta-9 and should not be used while driving. Be mindful of your surroundings, and make sure to only take as much as you need as a supplement.

Getting Started with Delta-8

Because it’s made with all-natural hemp, Delta-8 is widely available. However, not all manufacturers and distributors are the same. You should always deal with only the most reputable sources that use the cleanest ingredients. This will ensure you have the most positive experience and avoid any complications.

Like THC and CBD, Delta-8 can be found in a variety of forms. We recommend using gummies to start, as they are easy to dose and ingest. Our gummies are made with the best ingredients and come in amazing fruity flavors. Check out our full selection of Delta-8 and CBD products to find the best products to suit your individual needs.

Is CBD an Effective Weight Loss Supplement?
cbd weight loss

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Early studies show that CBD may affect weight

Cannabidiol (CBD) is widely available these days, and it’s touted as a miracle cure for everything you can think of. But what’s the real science behind CBD and its usage?

This guide will explore the medical research and facts surrounding CBD for weight loss. Cannabis is often associated with both weight loss and gain, but without looking at the science, it’s impossible to know how it’ll affect you.

Here’s a comprehensive overview of CBD research so far and what it means for weight loss and gain.

Understanding CBD

CBD is one of over 100 unique compounds called cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Currently, it’s approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating epilepsy and requires a prescription. However, it’s also available over the counter as an herbal supplement.

Unlike other cannabinoids, CBD contains no psychoactive components. It also doesn’t directly get absorbed by your endocannabinoid receptors. Instead, it binds to those receptors and others in your body to affect them in different ways.

How CBD Affects Weight

Your body’s endocannabinoid system has both CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are associated with your central nervous system, while CB2 relates to your immune system. These CB1 receptors can be spread by fatty tissue, so the more overweight you are, the more spread out they are.

CBD was shown in some studies to boost metabolism and reduce appetite, potentially leading to weight loss. Of course, these studies were done on rats, as research on humans was slowed by draconian laws prohibiting it until the past few years.

Is CBD Effective for Weight Loss?

There are two types of fat—white and brown—and CBD is known to possibly lead to the browning of white fat cells. This could lead to weight loss, as people at a healthy weight generally have more brown fat than obese people.

Although cannabis usage is commonly associated with “the munchies,” studies have shown that marijuana users have lower obesity rates than those who don’t partake. However, the exact role CBD plays in this is unclear, as there are many other chemical reactions involved in the consumption of the entire plant.

Still, taking CBD in its purest form could be a great supplement for your weight loss journey.

Choosing the Right CBD Products

Always make sure you’re dealing with a reputable CBD dealer. This will guarantee you the cleanest and purest ingredients made in a laboratory environment, keeping you safe from contaminants and any unhealthy ingredients.

There are multiple ways to take CBD, including applying topicals directly to your skin, putting drops under your tongue, and consuming edibles. Your method of choice depends on personal preference, as each will get the CBD into your body and help with your goals.

The Real Facts About Using CBD for Pain Treatment

Everything you need to know about CBD and pain.

CBD for pain treatment

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound in the cannabis plant that affects our endocannabinoid system in many ways. One of its benefits is that it treats pain, inflammation, and other physical discomfort.

While the psychoactive compounds in cannabis are still federally illegal, a prescription CBD treatment has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But even over-the-counter CBD can be beneficial for treating chronic pain.

Although the research into this exciting new therapeutic industry is still ongoing, the benefits of CBD for pain are more than just marketing hype—there is real medical research being done on the effects it has on our pain receptors. Whether it’s temporary or chronic discomfort, CBD as a supplement has the potential to bring great relief.

How CBD Relieves Discomfort

There are no firm studies showing a definitive link between CBD and pain, as pointed out by Harvard Health. So far, official clinical trials have only proven that CBD treats epilepsy, and pain is a difficult ailment to measure. But there is promising ongoing research into CBD’s effects on both anxiety and discomfort, and it certainly has fewer side effects than alternatives like opiates.

CBD relieves pain by engaging our endocannabinoid receptors. This means that it can affect inflammation and our pain-sensing nociceptive systems. A 2015 study on rats dosed with at least 6.2 mg of CBD a day showed reduced discomfort and swelling. Because rats and humans share an extraordinary amount of genetic traits, this could translate to humans once more clinical trials are approved.

A 2017 review of studies showed that CBD and THC could have positive effects on the intense and acute pain associated with migraines. In fact, a 1:1 CBD/THC mixture is also approved by Health Canada as a prescription treatment for neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis and cancer patients.

There’s also promising research indicating that CBD’s pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties could reduce arthritis inflammation. However, it’s important to understand that no matter what you use it for, CBD is simply a supplement to a healthy lifestyle.

Getting Started with CBD for Pain

When buying CBD, you first need to decide how you plan to use it. You can find CBD in various forms, although topicals and edibles are the most common. Each is absorbed into your body in a different manner, and many people opt for a combination of both. An edible can distribute the CBD through your body, while a topical can concentrate on the specific area in pain.

Once you choose your type of CBD, you need to figure out how to dose it properly—a 5 mg increment is a great way to figure out how much you need to treat the discomfort. Some people find that higher dosages work better, especially with long-term usage for chronic pain. Your body will start to build a resistance to the same amount over time, so you may find yourself increasing the dosage incrementally.

From there, you need to ensure you’re dealing with a reputable seller. Not all CBD is created equal, and you want the cleanest product with the most efficient delivery at a fair and reasonable price. That’s where Sophia CBD comes in. All of our CBD products are 100% laboratory tested to ensure you’re using only the highest-quality ingredients.

3 Ways CBD Makes Valentines Day Steamy

Look no further for a way to spice up your love life this year.

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Valentine’s Day is a time-tested holiday celebrating love. There’s no better feeling in the world than getting intimate with your man on V-Day. Human connection is a powerful force that can reinvigorate us and breathe new life into us.

Romance is important for a relationship, and sometimes, we need ideas on how to keep the spark going. Have you ever considered CBD’s effects on libido and intimacy?

CBD is more than a buzzword—and it doesn’t give you a buzz. But it can have a positive impact on your sex life if used correctly. Let’s dive into what researchers discovered when analyzing cannabidiol and sex.

CBD Reduces Anxiety

We all know sex is more than just an animalistic physical act—it’s an intimate bonding moment between two human beings. And every woman’s sex life is different (as are we all at a different point in the journey). Whether you’re hooking up for the first time or the 10,000th, sometimes anxiety can take over and make it harder to perform.

CBD has been shown to reduce anxiety in many studies, which means it can be beneficial in the head games involved in intimacy. If you’re worried about how you may look, feel, or perform during sex, CBD can help. And the benefits don’t stop there.

CBD Promotes Natural Lubrication

CBD increases blood flow, especially to the endocannabinoid receptors in our sex organs. This stimulates sexual tissues and causes them to produce natural lubricants. This is especially true with water-based CBD lubricants that can be applied directly to intimate areas.

CBD Increased Sensitivity

Because CBD boosts blood flow to your vagina, it also increases sensitivity in that area. This can heighten pleasure while also relaxing your muscles so you can let go for a much more erotic experience. The physiological effect of sex sends a lot of chemicals rushing throughout your body, and CBD helps this process.

Unlike other cannabinoids, CBD doesn’t get directly consumed by your endocannabinoid system. Instead, it stimulates and activates these receptors to be more open to accepting the natural chemicals your body already produces. This leads to a much more enjoyable effect while using CBD during intimacy.

How to Use CBD During Sex

You can use CBD in a lot of ways before, during, and after sex to improve your life. It can be consumed and applied as a topical, but the best method is using the Sophia CBD Intimacy Oil.

Our water-based intimacy oil is made with broad-spectrum, organic hemp and increases libido while stimulating intimate pleasure. Simply rub some on your hands and rub your hands all over the desired areas of each other’s bodies to enjoy the boundless joy of CBD-enhanced sexual pleasure.

CBD for Muscle Recovery: Why Athletes Rely on CBD

Find out how athletes, bodybuilders, and sports professionals treat muscle aches with CBD

CBD for muscle recovery: Why athletes rely on CBD

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Many athletes, bodybuilders, and sports professionals rely on CBD to relieve the pain associated with muscle recovery. There is a wide variety of capsules, gummies, balms, oils, and tinctures designed to help people recover from fitness- and exercise-related discomfort.

Whenever you exercise, you put a specific muscle group under a great deal of stress. The body responds by rebuilding the damaged muscles, replacing that tissue with bigger, stronger muscle fibers. This process is responsible for the feeling of muscle soreness that accompanies a good workout.

CBD helps to relieve some of the pain and discomfort associated with muscle soreness. Since it acts as an anti-inflammatory, it can play an important role in promoting wellness while reducing soreness and pain. However, certain CBD products and formats are better for this than others.

How to Use CBD for Athletic Recovery

CBD comes in many forms and can enter the body in multiple ways. For athletes and fitness enthusiasts who are interested in exploring CBD’s potential for muscle recovery, topical applications will have the best results.

Topical ointments allow for maximum absorption of CBD in the part of the body that aches the most. This is great for athletes and bodybuilders who focus on a single muscle group at a time, as it allows the active ingredient to concentrate its effect in one place.

This provides relief faster and more effectively than oral CBD supplements, which have to go through digestion before metabolizing. After metabolizing, your body will distribute CBD throughout your entire body, which means less of it is concentrated on the muscle group you targeted during your workout. This makes oral CBD a better choice for fatigue and insomnia than as a post-workout fitness supplement.

Applying topical CBD products is simple. You can freely and safely apply a topical CBD balm directly to your sore muscles after every workout. Your body will start absorbing the active ingredient upon contact.

You can freely apply CBD to the affected area if aching persists, but consult a medical professional if soreness doesn’t improve after 48-72 hours. This may indicate a serious medical condition that requires emergency care.

Make CBD Part of Your Health and Fitness Routine

There is no replacement for getting regular, high-quality sleep and eating a healthy diet. CBD is a powerful and effective supplement for promoting pain relief and speeding up the body’s ability to recover from soreness and injury. A health- and wellness-oriented lifestyle makes it possible for these effects to take hold.

CBD combines well with a wide range of topical health and fitness supplements. For example, emu oil contains fatty acids that reduce pain and swelling while moisturizing skin, which can augment the power of high-quality topical CBD applications and help athletes recover from aches and injuries quickly.

Our CBD Pain Relief Freeze Rub or max strength Intensive Pain Relief Rub is an excellent choice for athletes seeking relief from muscle aches, discomfort, and painful sprains. It contains a combination of active CBD and other natural ingredients to bring relief after tough workout sessions.

CBD and CBN for Sleep: What You Need to Know
CBD and CBN for sleep

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Cannabidiol (CBD) has quickly surged in popularity to become one of the leading all-natural supplements on today’s market. It is widely used to treat stress and anxiety, promote good health, and alleviate certain forms of neurodegenerative diseases like epilepsy.

But one of the most interesting and widespread uses for CBD is as a sleep aid. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence to support this among the CBD community – and now, we’re getting our first look at scientific research that supports these claims.

What Causes Insomnia in the First Place?

In order to understand how CBD might positively impact sleep habits, it’s important to cover what makes people sleep badly in the first place. Insomnia is complex, and our scientific understanding of it is incomplete, but the medical community knows it can be caused by the following:

  • Mental health disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and schizophrenia can cause insomnia, as can less severe conditions like general anxiety and stress.
  • Medication and drugs can interfere with your body’s natural sleep cycle. Caffeine can play a significant role, even though most people don’t think of it as a psychoactive drug.
  • Physical conditions such as chronic pain, discomfort, or even itchy insect bites can all contribute to sleeplessness.
  • Environmental factors like loud neighbors, uncomfortable beds, or sudden sounds can make it impossible to sleep.

The first two entries in the list above are internal factors, and the last two are external factors. CBD is more likely to work when your insomnia is caused by external factors than by internal ones.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t take CBD if your insomnia stems from anxiety or PTSD. It just means that CBD may not be able to treat the cause of sleeplessness all by itself. There’s a big difference between treating PTSD-related insomnia and bad sleep caused by an uncomfortable bed.

CBD as a Sleep Aid: What the Research Says

A 2019 study discovered that 47 out of 72 patients reported better sleep after taking 25 mg of CBD before bed. An earlier study found a considerable amount of evidence to support the idea that CBD can help promote a good night’s rest in people who experience chronic pain.

What About CBN As a Sleep Aid?

Cannabinol (CBN) is an all-natural cannabinoid ingredient very similar in structure to CBD. There is considerably less research on CBN currently available, but it is making waves as a potential melatonin replacement due to its non-psychoactive sedative abilities.

Unlike CBD, which is a cannabinoid with a broad range of positive effects, CBN is more narrowly focused on insomnia relief. Instead of reducing inflammation, for instance, CBN’s anxiety-reducing effects are far more pronounced.

CBD can have a positive impact on many physical and mental ailments

4 reasons to take CBD: This all-natural compound helps people of all ages make the most of their health and wellness routine. As a non-intoxicating compound found in the cannabis plant, it offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits to people who want a safe, healthy alternative to traditional health supplements.

People who suffer from illness can have trouble managing pain, sleeping well, and reducing the impact of stress on their daily lives. CBD can play a vital role in helping people live fruitful, energetic lives while relieving the symptoms of a variety of ailments.

4 Reasons to Incorporate CBD Into Your Wellness Routine

Cannabis has played a therapeutic role in treating and alleviating illness for millennia. Ancient Chinese physicians knew the power of CBD and prescribed it for headaches, pain, insomnia, anemia, and more. They did not have a scientific understanding of the human body’s endocannabinoid system, but they had a deep understanding of natural health and wellness.

Many of the underlying reasons ancient peoples prescribed cannabis are still relevant today. They include some of the benefits that CBD offers to people who wish to improve their wellness routine. Some of these benefits include:

  • Improved Stress Management. CBD has great potential as a stress-relieving treatment. It has been shown to reduce stress in animal tests, which is encouraging news for those of us waiting for human clinical trials to publish their data. It has already shown promise in treating PTSD symptoms, which plays well into its capability as a general stress-reliever.
  • Healthy Sleep. In the United States, 70% of adults report having trouble sleeping at least one night a month. One out of every ten reports getting insufficient sleep every single night. CBD and CBN can help regulate the body’s internal clock and reduce stress, giving people the ability to sleep better and more regularly than they could before. PTSD sufferers have reported having fewer nightmares while taking CBD, as well, underscoring its effectiveness as a sleep aid.
  • Mood and Emotional Regulation. CBD can have a positive impact on mood and emotional regulation, helping people combat stress, anxiety, and depression. Many people prefer to use all-natural CBD in addition to their prescribed medication, indicating a place for improved mood regulation through the endocannabinoid system.
  • Exercise and Fitness. CBD has well-known anti-inflammatory effects, which makes it an ideal addition to an exercise or fitness routine. When you work out, your body breaks down muscle fibers and builds stronger ones in their place, triggering an inflammatory response. CBD can help reduce soreness and pain associated with fitness activities.

Should You Start Taking CBD Now?

If your goal is to maintain health and wellbeing, there is every indication that taking CBD will help you establish a positive baseline for your wellness routine. If you wish to alleviate the negative symptoms of stress, sleeplessness, or physical pain, CBD may also play a vital role. Consult your physician for advice on taking CBD for serious or life-threatening ailments.

The Benefits of CBD for Pets: Why Give Pets CBD?

Learn why pet owners are giving their animal companions special CBD products.

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Benefits of CBD for Pets

Pet owners are a growing segment discovering the benefits of CBD for pets in the United States. People are using high-quality CBD products to treat animal anxiety, alleviate pain, and more.

Often, these are people who understand the benefits of using CBD first-hand. It’s only natural that they want to share their positive experience with their animal companions.

But we should be cautious about what we give our pets. Human beings love chocolate – but it’s toxic for cats and dogs. Pet owners should be careful to only give their pets products that are safe for their unique digestive systems.

How CBD Works for Animals

CBD works by binding to receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. In humans, this can generate pain-relieving and stress-reducing effects. It also has been shown to reduce the severity of epileptic seizures and lower inflammation throughout the body.

Animals also have endocannabinoid systems. Mammals like dogs and cats have systems very similar to ours, but those are also present in birds, fish, and some invertebrates. Only insects and protozoa seem to lack these near-universal systems.

This means that CBD definitely works on pets. It also means it’s probably safer for dogs and cats than for non-mammals. Several small studies have shown significant positive benefits to giving CBD to pets:

  • A Cornell University study found that dogs with osteoarthritis experienced less pain and increased physical activity when given CBD oil twice a day.
  • Another study found that CBD reduced seizure frequency and severity for dogs with epilepsy.
  • A survey of US veterinarians found that 87% of vets said CBD is helpful for treating dogs with anxiety. More than half also mentioned calming dogs’ phobias of storms and fireworks.

What to Look for in CBD for Pets

The biggest risk when buying CBD products for pets is guaranteeing product purity. Not all CBD products contain 100% pure CBD. Contaminants, heavy metals, and pathogens are just as dangerous for pets as they are for humans.

In fact, there is reason to believe that contaminants may have a more severe effect on animals than on humans, simply due to differences in body weight. Any supplement will have a more pronounced effect on a 15-pound dog than a 150-pound human. Owners of small breeds should take extra caution to purchase chemically pure CBD products that have been tested by certified labs.

CBD product form also matters for pets. Most CBD-based topical treatments are designed for human skin, which is remarkably different from the skin of other mammals. Dogs and cats have different gland structures in the skin, which explains why they cannot sweat, but it also means they cannot absorb topical CBD through the skin the way humans do.

The best CBD products for pets come in treat form. These are specially formulated gummies instilled with a flavor that pets love. Tinctures can also be effective, allowing pet owners to add a few drops of pure CBD oil directly to pet food.
