CBD and CBN for Sleep: What You Need to Know
CBD and CBN for sleep

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Cannabidiol (CBD) has quickly surged in popularity to become one of the leading all-natural supplements on today’s market. It is widely used to treat stress and anxiety, promote good health, and alleviate certain forms of neurodegenerative diseases like epilepsy.

But one of the most interesting and widespread uses for CBD is as a sleep aid. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence to support this among the CBD community – and now, we’re getting our first look at scientific research that supports these claims.

What Causes Insomnia in the First Place?

In order to understand how CBD might positively impact sleep habits, it’s important to cover what makes people sleep badly in the first place. Insomnia is complex, and our scientific understanding of it is incomplete, but the medical community knows it can be caused by the following:

  • Mental health disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and schizophrenia can cause insomnia, as can less severe conditions like general anxiety and stress.
  • Medication and drugs can interfere with your body’s natural sleep cycle. Caffeine can play a significant role, even though most people don’t think of it as a psychoactive drug.
  • Physical conditions such as chronic pain, discomfort, or even itchy insect bites can all contribute to sleeplessness.
  • Environmental factors like loud neighbors, uncomfortable beds, or sudden sounds can make it impossible to sleep.

The first two entries in the list above are internal factors, and the last two are external factors. CBD is more likely to work when your insomnia is caused by external factors than by internal ones.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t take CBD if your insomnia stems from anxiety or PTSD. It just means that CBD may not be able to treat the cause of sleeplessness all by itself. There’s a big difference between treating PTSD-related insomnia and bad sleep caused by an uncomfortable bed.

CBD as a Sleep Aid: What the Research Says

A 2019 study discovered that 47 out of 72 patients reported better sleep after taking 25 mg of CBD before bed. An earlier study found a considerable amount of evidence to support the idea that CBD can help promote a good night’s rest in people who experience chronic pain.

What About CBN As a Sleep Aid?

Cannabinol (CBN) is an all-natural cannabinoid ingredient very similar in structure to CBD. There is considerably less research on CBN currently available, but it is making waves as a potential melatonin replacement due to its non-psychoactive sedative abilities.

Unlike CBD, which is a cannabinoid with a broad range of positive effects, CBN is more narrowly focused on insomnia relief. Instead of reducing inflammation, for instance, CBN’s anxiety-reducing effects are far more pronounced.

CBD can have a positive impact on many physical and mental ailments

4 reasons to take CBD: This all-natural compound helps people of all ages make the most of their health and wellness routine. As a non-intoxicating compound found in the cannabis plant, it offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits to people who want a safe, healthy alternative to traditional health supplements.

People who suffer from illness can have trouble managing pain, sleeping well, and reducing the impact of stress on their daily lives. CBD can play a vital role in helping people live fruitful, energetic lives while relieving the symptoms of a variety of ailments.

4 Reasons to Incorporate CBD Into Your Wellness Routine

Cannabis has played a therapeutic role in treating and alleviating illness for millennia. Ancient Chinese physicians knew the power of CBD and prescribed it for headaches, pain, insomnia, anemia, and more. They did not have a scientific understanding of the human body’s endocannabinoid system, but they had a deep understanding of natural health and wellness.

Many of the underlying reasons ancient peoples prescribed cannabis are still relevant today. They include some of the benefits that CBD offers to people who wish to improve their wellness routine. Some of these benefits include:

  • Improved Stress Management. CBD has great potential as a stress-relieving treatment. It has been shown to reduce stress in animal tests, which is encouraging news for those of us waiting for human clinical trials to publish their data. It has already shown promise in treating PTSD symptoms, which plays well into its capability as a general stress-reliever.
  • Healthy Sleep. In the United States, 70% of adults report having trouble sleeping at least one night a month. One out of every ten reports getting insufficient sleep every single night. CBD can help regulate the body’s internal clock and reduce stress, giving people the ability to sleep better and more regularly than they could before. PTSD sufferers have reported having fewer nightmares while taking CBD, as well, underscoring its effectiveness as a sleep aid.
  • Mood and Emotional Regulation. CBD can have a positive impact on mood and emotional regulation, helping people combat stress, anxiety, and depression. Many people prefer to use all-natural CBD in addition to their prescribed medication, indicating a place for improved mood regulation through the endocannabinoid system.
  • Exercise and Fitness. CBD has well-known anti-inflammatory effects, which makes it an ideal addition to an exercise or fitness routine. When you work out, your body breaks down muscle fibers and builds stronger ones in their place, triggering an inflammatory response. CBD can help reduce soreness and pain associated with fitness activities.

Should You Start Taking CBD Now?

If your goal is to maintain health and wellbeing, there is every indication that taking CBD will help you establish a positive baseline for your wellness routine. If you wish to alleviate the negative symptoms of stress, sleeplessness, or physical pain, CBD may also play a vital role. Consult your physician for advice on taking CBD for serious or life-threatening ailments.

HOW TO TAKE CBD OIL?

  1. Determine your goals.

How much CBD oil should I take is a common question? But there is no one-size-fits-all, and the answer is different for everyone. Therefore we must first understand why you want to use CBD. What are your expectations, and how soon do you want the desired results. This will determine whether you should use a fast-acting tincture or a slower pace edible.

  2. Boost your mood.

We encourage adjusting your environment to complement the desired CBD effects. Some suggestions are getting cozy, taking a walk, watching a movie, listening to music, or exercising.

  3. Read the label.

SOPHIA CBD gummies and soft gels provide a description, additional information, ingredients, and suggested usage. Make sure you are familiar with the product, follow the recommended serving size and suggested usage.

  4. Find your sweet spot.

More is not always better, and this means you have to experiment to find your sweet spot, and it may take experimenting a few times. You must continuously measure and balance your dose and adjust according to the response to find your sweet spot.

  5. Go low and slow.

Take a low dose and wait until after the CBD peaks. For faster acting tinctures taken sublingually you can re-dose every 2-4 hours. And for slower edibles like gummies and soft gels you can re-dose every 4-6 hours.

  6. Using a tincture.

Shake the bottle well before using. Use the dropper squirt the oil under your tongue and let it sit for 30-60 seconds. This allows the mucous membrane in your tongue absorb quickly and bypass the digestive system and liver, it takes about 45 minutes for the CBD to activate in your body.
